I was just tsk-tsking over the planned obsolesce of electronics these days, and pondering the continued cost; it seems so wasteful. I thought back to my dad, the farmer, with his simple job, and simple ways…and then I remembered that a used John Deere combine costs at least $150,000.
I’ve bought six computers in my life, ranging from $800-$2200; my latest, a used Air, was $1200. I have to buy about another 94 computers before I’ve spent $150,000. And should you, at this point, naturally want to remind me that I also own an iPad and an iPhone, keep in mind that my dad had another two regular tractors and a Mac truck to boot. And let’s not forget gas! Oh, the gas.
Point is, I guess: there’s a reason my dad was a farmer. On my end, I’ll stick to buying used computers.
