So what’s the perfect drink for a meaningless romance? Joe Hargrave, owner of San Francisco’s Laiola, recommends a peppery beer cocktail made with Pabst Blue Ribbon - apparently his employees’ “swill of choice” - and a homemade spicy vinegar (see recipe below). “It’s one hell of a great drink, especially for people on the move this season,” says Hargrave, who has been known to serve the spicy drink to his dates, then run before things got too serious. The Chronicle likes it because nothing says cheap quite like Pabst Blue Ribbon.
